It was a mixed day for the Men’s team in the second full day of competition.
We started the morning at 8am with a loss to the young Korean team. They are certainly on a roll starting the tournament with 3 wins and 0 losses. It was a close game until I missed my last shot of the 9th end – a double raise takeout for 2 to tie the game. They ended up stealing 1 and had us down by 3 points going into the 10th end.
In the afternoon we played the team from the Czech Republic with a more happy result. With a score of 10-2 after the 6th end the Czech guys were happy to declare the result and head to the clubhouse.
The event is getting good coverage with SkyTV televising 3 draws a day for 5 days. Ex Kiwi players Hans Frauenlob and Lorne DePape are doing colour commentary and stats respectively for the Sky broadcast.
George Karrys from The Curling News has a nice summary of the event in his blog http://curlnews.blogspot.com/2009/08/nz-winter-games.html
In another note, the event is abuzz with some of the information in the curling program. Our Skip, Hugh Millikin, has his hobby listed as Knitting. Some of the local ladies want to see some of his work and compare patterns etc. <grin>
Cheers
